ENGINEERING AND DIGITAL ARTS

Digital Arts at Kent

Canterbury Cathedral Model - Final Year ProjectWelcome to Digital Arts at Kent — the portal to our undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities in digital arts and multimedia.

Our very successful BSc in Multimedia Technology & Design gives you the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge in areas such as web-design, interactive applications and e-commerce, as well as a broad grounding in visual image, 3D modelling, special effects and compositing. You will gain a good understanding of the underlying digital technologies as well as developing your design skills. If you wish, you can take this degree with a year in industry.

If your interests lie more with design than the technology, our exciting new BA in Digital Arts provides students with practical skills, creative thinking and design expertise in the digital arts, opening up career opportunities in a range of areas within the creative industries.  In the first year, our programme offers a broad grounding in digital media, including website design, digital photography, moving image, graphic design, and special effects. In the following years you go on to explore digital filmmaking, 3D modelling and animation, compositing, digital portfolio production and design for print.

Alternatively, if you are more interested in applying digital media techniques to dramatic productions, why not consider our BA in Drama & Multimedia?

For those seeking a career in 3D animation, we offer an MSc in Computer Animation. This postgraduate degree is oriented towards current industrial needs, technology and practice and aims to be a direct route into a desirable and high-profile creative industry. The course is a collaboration with Michael Eames, Head of Animation at Framestore CFC, the largest visual effects and computer animation company in Europe; its numerous international awards include Oscars, BAFTAs and Emmys.

Or you may be more interested in a career as a Technical Director, concentrating on 3D model building, texturing, lighting, rendering, procedural animation (cloth, hair, fur, dynamics), advanced compositing, high definition digital effects and so on.  If so, then you should consider our new MSc in Digital Visual Effects.

Our new MA in Architectural Visualisation is offered and jointly taught by Kent School of Architecture and the School of Engineering and Digital Arts. This MA will enable students to develop at an advanced level the skills, knowledge and understanding of digital simulation and 3D modelling which will equip them to become highly skilled professionals in architectural visualisation.

Alternatively, you may like to undertake research leading to an MSc, MPhil or PhD, Digital Media Research Degree.
